Why House of Copper
Frequently Asked Questions
A lot of “copper” jewelry sold online is copper-plated: a thin layer over a cheaper base metal that wears away over time.
Our pieces are made from 99.9% pure, solid copper all the way through, with no plating and no coating. That is also why they develop a real patina over time instead of flaking or fading.
That green tint is a natural reaction between copper and moisture, sweat or lotions. It is not harmful and washes off easily with soap and water.
To keep it to a minimum, wipe the inside of your piece with a soft cloth now and then and keep it dry when you are not wearing it. For most people it fades after the first weeks.
Store your piece in a dry place and wipe it with a soft cloth every now and then.
Love the patina? Simply keep wearing it. Prefer the original shine? Rub it with a little lemon juice and salt (or vinegar and salt), rinse with water and dry it well. The glow is back in a few minutes.
Yes. Water won't damage solid copper.
Just know that water, sweat, saltwater and chlorine speed up the patina, so your piece will darken faster. That is not damage, it is simply real copper reacting to its surroundings. If you prefer to keep the shine, rinse it with fresh water after swimming and pat it dry.
Copper has been worn as jewelry for thousands of years, and many people simply love how it looks and feels.
We sell our pieces as jewelry, not as a health product, and we don't make medical claims. If you are looking for relief from a health condition, please talk to your doctor.
Yes, all of our pieces are nickel-free. Nickel is the most common cause of jewelry allergies.
A small number of people are sensitive to copper itself. If you notice any irritation, take the piece off and get in touch with us.
Our cuffs are open and can be gently adjusted. Hold the cuff with both hands and bend it slowly at the middle, not at the ends, to open or close it a little.
